Chiara has retired from interior design. She takes on new projects very occasionally.

I view Interior Design as Interior architecture.
Beyond decoration, Interior Design is based on the functions occurring inside the building and relates with the exterior and the environment in a flowing continuum.

I enjoy solving problems, redefining existing spaces and creating new ones with total dedication to each project, no matter the size: a custom furniture piece, a room or an entire house.

The best design result is achieved by working together with clients to develop their vision into reality. The client provides the information which forms the basis for the design solution. We proceed together in steps, from a preliminary schematic to a final design, through design development, selection of finishes and specification of furniture and/or equipment. The final step, construction documents, drawings and specifications enable the construction and completion of the project.

Chiara Romano Van Erp was educated in Italy, where she graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Torino. Shortly thereafter she came to the United States to study and work with the architect/philosopher Paolo Soleri in Arizona. She established her own firm in 1990 in Providence, RI after working in architecture and interior design firms in Torino and Rome in Italy, Boston and Providence in the United States. Chiara’s work ranges from contract to residential interior and architecture, to furniture, lighting and carpet design and has been published in major design magazines.

She is a professional member of the America Society of Interior Designers, (ASID) since 1989 and a member of the Graphic Artist Guild, (GAG), since 2002.
